Stones Become Bread
Jemimah Vaughan

Opening 23 August 6-9pm
24 - 30 August, daily 10-4pm

Boardroom Committee Room presents Stones Become Bread, a solo exhibition by studio holder Jemimah Vaughan. Stones Become Bread is a commemoration of a relationship with the early medieval Govan Stones housed at Govan Old Church. Through a series of naturally dyed textiles, paintings and text, the work explores themes of craftsmanship, industry, connection to land, religious trauma and grieving something perhaps not yet dead.

Jemimah Vaughan is a maker of images and objects based in Glasgow. Born in Leicester, she graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2023 and was awarded both the RSA New Contemporaries and the Visual Art Scotland Graduate Award.

Vaughan moves nimbly between paint and fabric-based mediums with a deep investment in the materiality and histories of labour evident in both. Her practice explores how the role of an artist relates to crafts-people and folk culture, often culminating in paintings, foraged natural dye production and quilt making. As a workshop facilitator and educator, she is passionate about providing opportunities for collaborative, community centred models of art-production which explore the interplay of art that is both decorative and functional.
